Choate Park, built around an old mill pond, is the heart of Medway’s recreational system. CBA’s master plan organized and updated the park’s core feature area - it emphasized the park’s bucolic setting by adding a new pavilion for gatherings near the water’s edge, modernized the play area, and improved parking. These features were all updated in the first phase of construction, which also improved ADA accessibility and lighting of the pathways throughout the park, creating an accessible route to the ballfields at the top of the hill and a route around the pond from the central core. The play areas and gathering spaces were designed to be as open and transparent as possible to preserve the water views that define the character of Choate Park. The project required a substantial permitting process, including Site Plan Review, input from the Design Review Board, and Conservation Commission permitting.
