EDEN STREET PARK, CHELSEA, MA
Wrapped around a private corner lot residence, Eden Street Park’s unusual shape lent itself to a redesign as a series of “rooms” that encourage movement through the park. Spaces for seating, play, and a low-flow splash pad bridge the space between the two entrances on Eden and Addison Streets. Preservation of the existing mature tree canopy was a high priority, and this climate resiliency goal was bolstered with the addition of new shade trees and drought-tolerant understory plantings. The site’s permeable paver plazas and walkways infiltrate stormwater and splash pad water runoff on site.
