Mary c. burke elementary schoolyard, Chelsea, MA

The Mary C. Burke Elementary School Complex serves over 2,200 students, nearly all of the first through fifth graders in Chelsea. The site’s acre of playground space is heavily used throughout the school day and as a neighborhood park. CBA was tasked with designing a flexible, durable, and varied play environment for what is essentially four schools in one building while improving accessibility throughout the schoolyard and bolstering infrastructure to manage future flooding.
